The core activity of the Food Division is the processing and exports of the fresh water fish – Nile Perch (latin name Lates Niloticus) - caught from the pristine waters of Lake Victoria. The Food division has been processing Nile Perch exclusively for export since 1987. Alpha Group is the only Group to have established both presence and lake fish processing facilities in the East African countries.

Nile Perch Nutritional Analysis
Nile Perch belongs to the Grouper family of fish. It is wonderfully sweet tasting, firmly textured, highly nutritious, virtually odorless and retains its high moisture content when cooked.
This fish is low in calories, rich in trace nutrients, and its lipid is poly saturated. This species is the largest fresh water fish in the world. It can grow in excess of 230 kgs (500lbs), however; only medium size fish are used commercially to assure tenderness and low fat content.
Researchers have found that Omega-3 fatty acids from seafood may reduce the risk of heart disease. Studies have also shown links between Omega-3 and improved brain development, cancer prevention, alleviation of pain in rheumatoid arthritis, and migraines. All seafood has Omega-3 fatty acids, but Nile Perch has one of the highest levels of Omega-3 found in any seafood.
