Tanzania Fish Processors Ltd
Tanzania Fish Processors Ltd was incorporated in October 1992 as a Limited Liability Company in Mwanza, Tanzania, with the objective of processing and exporting Nile Perch Fillets.

The company commenced semi-processing of Nile Perch for export to Kenya during 1993 and full fledged processing for export world-wide in September 1994. It is the largest processor of Nile Perch in this region with an installed capacity of 15,000 MT of fish fillet per annum.

Processing of Fish

Once Fresh Fish is brought into the Factory, procedures and steps are undertaken to ensure the final products for export.
  • Traceability forms are inspected
  • Quality checks are performed
  • Washing of whole fish
  • Filleting, de-boning and removal of offal.
  • Removal of belly flaps
  • De-skinning
  • Trimming.
  • Chilling in ice and potable water slurry
  • Trimming of the Fillets as per order specification
  • Grading of fillets.
  • Freezing
  • Packing
By Products

Once Filleting has taken place, the by products - Chest, Bladder, Oil and trip waste is removed for consumption in the regional market. The Fish Bones and Head are supplied to the Fish Meal processing companies. In addition the same is also used for production of "Omega 3" Oil. As can be seen, all the parts of the fish thus gets utilized/consumed during the process.

  • Installed capacity of the Plant for filleting 15,000 MT Per annum.
  • The plant is approved for exports to E.U under approval number A-PP-209.
  • The Company generates employment directly and indirectly for 1,200 families and is one of the major employers in the Country.
  • Total processing floor area of the factory 1,000 Sq Mtr and Storage area (Refrigerated) 750 Sq Mtr.
  • All the processing is done under strict HACCP Policy
  • The Company has its own in house Power Generation Units and is self sufficient for its power requirements.
  • The Company deals with 25 approved fish suppliers. These fish suppliers deal with over 5000 artesian Fisherman.
  • The Company is investing on an annual basis a sum of USD 1 Million by way of supplying to the artisan fisherman's with suitable and duly approved fishing gears. Equipments include- Gill Nets, Outboard Engines, Fishing Boats.
  • The Company has its own insulated collection boat loaded with flake ice for collection from the fishing areas and thus able to minimize the post harvest losses and maintain the high quality of raw materials.
  • Primary Products include Frozen and Fresh Deep Skinned Boneless Fillets, Skin –on Boneless Fillets, Headless and Gutted

Tanzania Fish Processors Limited, implemented Alpha Tanzania Sustainable Nile Perch Fishery Project Mwanza in the lake Victoria zone. The project was started in the April 2011. This project are in total of 952 fisherman operating from nine landing site.

Tanzania Fish Processors Limited commits to continually improve the Lake Victoria Perch (Lates niloticus) sustainability performance. Following consideration of the importance to Lake Victoria Perch ( Lates niloticus) sustainability and a commitment to the both present and future generations without degrading lake ecosystem.

Tanzania Fish Processors Limited will continually train fish supplier, fishermen and workers to ensure increased and sustainable fish production by managing capture of lake Victoria Perch; adopting legal gears for fishing.

We have appointed the Project Manager as the sustainability coordinator , who has responsibility for ensuring ongoing fish harvest practises done by using legal gears, identification of risk factors, recording and monitoring of impacts and implementing Naturland and local government sustainability measures.

Tanzania Fish Processors Limited will also train her workers for maximum utilization of captured fish by enhancing yield of products; promoting value added and restructured foods, utilizing waste and reducing post harvest losses.We encourage our staff to present our commitment to Lake Victoria Perch (Lates niloticus) sustainability.
