The core activity of the Food Division is the processing and exports of the fresh water fish – Nile Perch. The Food division has been processing Nile Perch exclusively for export since 1987. The first plant was established in Nairobi, Kenya and processed approximately 1,400 tons of fish fillets for export in the first year. Thereafter the Kenyan processing operations were moved to Kisumu at the lakeside for better logistics. During the early 1990's additional processing facilities were strategically located and set up in Mwanza - Tanzania thereby establishing the Group's presence in East African countries.
The Nile Perch Processing Companies are:
- East African Sea Food Ltd - Kisumu, Kenya – Nile Perch Division
- Tanzania Fish Processors Ltd - Mwanza, Tanzania
- Musoma Fish Processors Ltd - Musoma, Tanzania
The Food Division is also involved in:
- Processing and distribution of a wide range of fine foods, temperature controlled and other food products.
- Added value Fish, Meat and Poultry products.
- Distribution of fresh sea food, fish and dairy products to restaurants
Seafood and Seafood Culture Products are processed and marketed by the Marine Product Division and include Black Tiger Prawns, Banana Prawns, Octopus, Crabs, Lobsters, Squid, Cuttle fish, Fin fish, Cultured Shrimps
