Under Sea Power cable laying between Zanzibar Island and main land Dar es Salam
Alpha Logistics have been awarded works for power cable laying between Zanzibar and mainland dar es salam by Viscas Corporation Japan.
Scope of work:
1. Design and installation of 132 KvA Electric cable
2. Arranagement of suitable Marine Spread ( Cable Laying Barge, Anchor Handling Tugs, Other Marine Equipments)
3. Arrangement of Bathymetry Survey, Seismic Survey etc
4. Arrangement of Shore lay operation including civil works, trenching works
The submarine cable contract was awarded to Japanese power cable company, Viscas Corporation in April 2010. The process was managed by ESBI in conjunction with MCA-T, MCC and the local utilities TANESCO and ZECO.
The submarine cable was designed to account for the required transfer capacity of the circuit and took account of various rating criteria such as the thermal resistivity of surround material, ambient ground temperature, ambient water temperature, and the bonding of the cable sheath.
It will take approximately two weeks to lay the cable across the main channel between Zanzibar and Tanzania. Significant near shore civil works for the burial of the cable are required at both sides. Following installation, the cable will be tested and subsequently energised, once the connections with the overhead line and stations element of the works have been completed. |
